Use broadband on Mobile to PC

We were using mobile phones as modems in early days to connect to internet. But it is very easy nowadays with smart phones such as iPhone, Android Phones (eg: Galaxy S4, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note II, HTC One, Sony Xperia etc).

Connect Android phone to PC
Android phones can be connected to PC via cable and wireless. To use cable connection, just plug in the USB cable to PC from mobile phone, go to settings on Android phone > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable Hotspot and enable USB Tethering. Then it will create a connection to PC just like a LAN connection and you can use browse internet on your PC without any additional drivers. This would be more reliable and much useful when the PC doesn't have any wireless interface. Moreover when connecting through cable, the phone will be charged at the same time.

To connect via wireless, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot  and enable Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Then go to Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot > Configure Wi-Fi hotspot and set SSID name and always better to set the security so that only authorized users can connect. To set security, select security as WPA2 PSK and set a password. Then enable Wi-Fi on your PC, search for available wireless networks, select the name of the hotspot, which you set as SSID on the android phone, click connect, enter the password and connect. It will be same as normal wireless hotspot.

Connect iPhone to PC
It is not straight forward to connect iPhone to PC via cable, however it is easy to setup personal hotspot on the iphone, set password and connect the PC to the hotspot (almost same as android phones).
