Google Search Tips

Most of our life is almost mixed with internet and everyone is using internet to search for data. There are many search engines available such as Google.com, yahoo.com, bing.com, ask.com etc. However Google is one of the best engine and mostly used search engine too. So it would be helpful to get familiar with Google to search for the data on internet.

Google search results are mostly based on the country and users' search preference. However we can get the proper search result by searching with proper words. If we are looking for specific key words, we may use the keywords within double quotes ("keyword or phrase") to get the proper listing rather than getting them as separate results.

If we are looking for specific file type, we can type the search phrase followed by filetype:fileformat. For example, looking for Visa Application form in pdf format, type Visa Application Form filetype:pdf, which will result only pdf files.

If we need to look for images, we can click on the image tab and search for the images. Then if we need specific size or file format, we can go to advance search and filter the images by size, file type, color, region, licence etc.

If we are looking for a meaning of a word, we can type the word and then meaning or type definition:word will display the meaning of the word with pronunciation.

We will be updating more tips soon

Use broadband on Mobile to PC

We were using mobile phones as modems in early days to connect to internet. But it is very easy nowadays with smart phones such as iPhone, Android Phones (eg: Galaxy S4, Galaxy SIII, Galaxy Note II, HTC One, Sony Xperia etc).

Connect Android phone to PC
Android phones can be connected to PC via cable and wireless. To use cable connection, just plug in the USB cable to PC from mobile phone, go to settings on Android phone > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable Hotspot and enable USB Tethering. Then it will create a connection to PC just like a LAN connection and you can use browse internet on your PC without any additional drivers. This would be more reliable and much useful when the PC doesn't have any wireless interface. Moreover when connecting through cable, the phone will be charged at the same time.

To connect via wireless, go to Settings > Wireless & Networks > Tethering & Portable hotspot  and enable Portable Wi-Fi hotspot. Then go to Portable Wi-Fi hotspot settings > Configure portable Wi-Fi hotspot > Configure Wi-Fi hotspot and set SSID name and always better to set the security so that only authorized users can connect. To set security, select security as WPA2 PSK and set a password. Then enable Wi-Fi on your PC, search for available wireless networks, select the name of the hotspot, which you set as SSID on the android phone, click connect, enter the password and connect. It will be same as normal wireless hotspot.

Connect iPhone to PC
It is not straight forward to connect iPhone to PC via cable, however it is easy to setup personal hotspot on the iphone, set password and connect the PC to the hotspot (almost same as android phones).

Mobiles and IMEI

What is IMEI?
IMEI stands for International Mobile Station Equipment Identity. IMEI is a 15 digit unique number, which is used to identify any GSM, UMTS and LTE mobile phones and modems. It is also used in some satellite phones too.

IMEI includes information about the mobile phone's origin, model, and serial number. The first 8 digits of IMEI have the details of the model and origin and it is called as the Type Allocation Code (TAC) and the other digits are defined by manufacturer.

How to check IMEI?
It can be seen on a printed sticker inside the battery compartment of the mobile phone or back side of modems. This can also be checked on screen on most of mobile phones by entering *#06# on the dialpad and on system information in the settings or options menu on smartphones.

What are the usages?
IMEI number is used by mobile networks to identify valid mobile devices. This would be helpful to find a stolen mobile phone and block it from accessing the network.
